Global Competence Certified

AFS Organization - March 2025

Engaging in the AFS Global Up program was a profound educational journey that greatly enhanced my grasp of intercultural competence and global education. The platform provided interactive modules covering identity, culture, bias, effective communication, and navigating cultural differences, blending theoretical insights with practical scenarios to foster critical reflection and real-world application.

Through the program, I gained a deeper awareness of my own cultural perspective and its influence on my interactions. I acquired practical strategies for promoting inclusive dialogue, addressing unconscious bias, and cultivating empathy in diverse classroom environments. The Global Up experience has strengthened my intercultural communication abilities and equipped me to foster inclusive learning spaces where all students feel recognized, valued, and respected—key attributes for any international or multicultural educational setting.

EAL Techniques

Students generate ideas individually or in groups, fostering creativity without judgment. It encourages participation from all learners, including EAL students, by allowing diverse input. Ideas can be written, drawn, or discussed to build vocabulary. This technique promotes a safe space for language exploration.

Students reflect on a question, discuss with a partner, then share with the class. It supports EAL learners by providing thinking time to process language. Pair discussions build confidence before speaking publicly. This method enhances listening, speaking, and collaboration skills.

Tools like mind maps or charts visually organize information for better comprehension. EAL students benefit from seeing relationships between concepts, aiding vocabulary retention. They can draw or write, supporting varied proficiency levels. This technique simplifies complex ideas for clearer understanding.

Students act out scenarios to practice real-life communication skills. It helps EAL learners use language in context, improving fluency and confidence. Props or scripts can support lower-proficiency students. This engaging method encourages cultural understanding and expressive language use.
